Viks Take This One To the Ground Emerge Fight with 12-9 victory over Issaquah
Inglemoor Baseball Places 3rd in KingCo
I was once told by an old guy that "sometimes you're the bug....and sometimes you're the windshield". Tonight, Inglemoor felt more akin to the bug early. Issaquah jumped to a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning. The Viks responded with 3 runs of their own in the 2nd on successive hits by Scott Meyers, Erick Raynes and Ethan Yeo's double scoring Meyers. Followed up by a team at bat by Eric Edwards on a ground ball plating Raynes and a nice sac-fly to center by Dickerson to score Yeo. Enter the Bug again......Issaquah came back with 3 runs in the 3rd to again move out to a 5 run lead at 8-3 and all the mojo was wearing purple. However, in the Viking 4th the players decided to make a change and the boys responded to the adversity and pressure around them like young men. The mentality in the dug out was knowing we were in a dog fight and the Viks approached their at bats with that same intensity. Enter the Windshield.....Viking style....Dickerson came to the plate with Edwards and Yeo on base and promptly destroyed a pitch to deep center which carried easily out of the yard for a 3-run homer and the Viks closed the gap 8-6. Not to leave his teammate all the work 2 hitters later senior Sam Johnston pounded an Eagle pitch out of left field too. The Viks found themselves down 8-7. The 5th produced a Viking run to tie the game when Scott Meyers got on by an error, stole 2nd and then scored on Erick Raynes single. Game Tied but only briefly as Issaquah scored again to take a 9-8 lead but that would be all they got for the rest of the night. The 6th opened for the Vikings with a double by Dickerson and a slow roller by Mitchell Gunsolus. Jordan Sui and Sam Johnson each delivered sac-flies deep enough to score both putting the Viks up 10-9 - a lead they would not relinquish. Viking starting pitcher Spencer Trautmann answered by then retiring the side in order - the first such inning of the day for our lefty and a huge moment in this game. Trautmann kept pouring it in for 6 innings w/out the good stuff working but did just enough to keep his team in the game with a chance to win. With a one run lead the Vikings added 2 more in the 7th when Raynes doubled in Meyers from 2nd - Raynes 3rd hit on the day. He scored a moment later when Marc Dickerson laced a single. Enter the closer for the day - Eric Edwards who shut the door in the 7th an closed out the Eagles12-9. With the win the Vikings play host to Greater St Helens league champ Heritage HS at Inglemoor Saturday at 12 noon.
