VIKINGS OPEN SEASON WITH VICTORY OVER ODEA

The two-time State Champion Irish of Odea made the trip to Valhalla this evening to open the 2011 season with the Vikings of Inglemoor. The weather finally broke today allowing the opener to go the distance with Inglemoor besting Odea 10-3 when it was all said & done. Inglemoor senior Dustin Doucette got the start and threw 3 innings allowing 1 run. Fine defense turned in by sophomore SS Jake Sleder and 3rd baseman Alex Morrow kept the Irish at bay early.

Inglemoor responded to the Irish 1-run 1st with a pair themselves in the bottom of the frame on 2 RBI double by Emmett Maki knocking Connor Savage & Garrett Vandiver in. The Viks scored again in the 2nd when Vandiver delivered a 2 out single to plate Sleder. 

After exchanging scoreless frames in the 3rd Inglemoor scored in each of the next three innings behind the big bat of Mitchell Gunsolus who hit 2 triples and a Sac Fly knocking in 4 runs including Peter Meuisi twice. Blake Wilson had a pair of RBI's on two hits scoring Gonzo & Danny Larsen.

Emmett Maki and Obidiah Taylor looked solid in their first appearance on the mound in relief of Doucette. Senior Alex Morrow closed the door in the 7th and the Vikings start the 2011 season with a solid win.
